Potty a go-go

I was told today that the two youngins' that I just picked up for my daycare are not potty trained :/

They are working on it however and wanted my help. Great, wonderful, less diapers that I would have to change however, I have not potty trained anyone in years! I was lucky that my children pretty much trained themselves so I need some major help.
I will be going out to buy one of those inserts to put on my toilet this week.
There is one boy(4) and one girl(3). Seems the girl is much more intersted in training than the boy.

Should I dive right into it when they get here on Tuesday for the first time, or do I hold off a few days and let them get to know me and get acquainted with my home?

Anyone want to share some potty training tips with me? I feel so out of the loop!

I've never potty trained a girl. When I first introduced potty training, I bought a potty that looked and sounded like a real potty. I had heard that so many children are afraid of the flushing noise, I didn't want to risk that. Anyways, we ended up putting the potty in the living room because the time between the moment he realized he had to go and when he actually went was about half a second. I think the trick is to have them sit on it a lot in the beginning. Once they go once in the potty and you make such a big deal out of it and give them lots of praise, they'll understand what the potty is for. Some people try to put them on it right after they eat or wake up from a nap (if they are still dry).

After a while we switched to a stepstool and a potty seat that sits on top of the toilet (is that what you meant by insert?). The only thing I would be worried about is needing the little plastic splash guard for the boy. This could hurt the girl if she sits on it by accident.

That probably was of no help at all, huh?

It was alot of help Karen, thank you. I remember introducing the potty to Thomas in his playroom so he could get use to it in a non-intimidating place as well.

These children are already introduced to it just not fully trained. Of course, the mother asked me to help her and I said I would but just that I haven't done it in a long time.
Heres hoping I am not changing 2 more sets of diapers for long!
